William Baker Neighborhood
This project entailed the asbestos abatement and demolition of 81 former military single family dwellings at the former Downsview Army Base. Each house had to have all Asbestos removed from within, following type 2 & 3 removal procedures. Once the abatement was complete, approx 4 miles of tree protection was installed, approx 90 trees were removed and numerous trees were pruned and fertilized.
After the site was prepared, and after a lengthy delay due to permit issues with the city, the houses were demolished and all of the utilities servicing the neighborhood were removed from the entire site, the basement cavities were backfilled, and compacted. Due to the permit delays though it was decided to wait until spring to seed, so once the site had dried up, top soil was spread, then the ground was terraseeded and the site was restored to a park like setting, ready for the next phase of the redevelopment.
